10 Tips for Keeping your Car Clean & Organized

The car is a mess again. What you need is a plan. Start with thinking about what really needs to be in my car. If you work out of your car, what files and office supplies do I really need to have? If you have kids, what do I need to have for them?
With the answers to these questions, you are ready to get started. Here are 10 tips to help you keep your car cleaner and well organized
1.
Take everything out of the car. Don’t forget under the seats, door/seat pockets, center console, visors and glove box. Empty the trunk. This would be a great time to check your spare tire and tire changing equipment.
2.
Separate everything into three piles: a) stuff you use all the time, b) stuff you use occasionally and c) emergency supplies. If it does fit in one of these three piles, it shouldn’t be in the car. Go through your piles, putting similar things together. Next, decide where things that are essential should go. For example; emergency supplies should go in the back, tissues and hand sanitizer in the console, and CD/entertainment items in the front. Floors should never be a storage option.
3.
Set a limit as to how much of each item should be in the car. For example; CDs, are six to many? Make a rule that if another CD comes in, one has to come back out!
4.
Now that you have things sorted. Think about how you will use these items in your car and what can be done to keep these items organized. Look into car storage bins. They are great way of organizing what you decide should be in your car.
5.
Before anything goes back in, clean the interior thoroughly. Vacuum and shampoo the interior. Remove spots and stains. Use a Refresh your car! car air freshener to keep the interior smelling clean and fresh.
6.
Keep a trash tote in the car and empty it regularly.
7.
Keep a tote bag in your car for carrying stuff to and from the car.
8.
Set a rule for your car for yourself and especially with your kids - if you bring something into the car with you, it leaves the car with you when you leave.
9.
Pick a day of the week, to inspect, spot clean, and if necessary remove clutter.
If you have kids, assign this to an older child as a chore.
10.
Make an appointment once each month to clean your car.
