How to get your car prepared for winter driving.

As the weather turns colder there are some basic things you must do to make sure your vehicle is reliable and safe for the colder months ahead.
Have your cooling system cleaned and flushed, and new antifreeze put in.
Regular cooling system service should include a thorough cooling system checking and leak test. Your mechanic will put the system under pressure and visually inspect for leaks.  If any of your hose show signs of cracking, rotting or softness replace them even if they're not leaking yet.
Check all fan belts for cracks or wear. Replace if necessary.
Check your windshield wipers for wear. Replace if needed.
Have your brakes and tires checked.  Replace any worn parts in the brakes and any worn tires.   Rotate tires if it has been more than 5,000 since your last tire rotation.
Be sure to check that your spare is properly inflated, and you know how to safely use your jack and lug wrench.
Make sure your heater, defroster and rear defogger are working properly.
Have your battery and charging system checked for optimum performance. Don't take any chances here.
Carry emergency equipment on board your vehicle, including jumper cables, flash light, extra batteries, flares, a shovel, first aid kit, basic hand tools, blankets and sand.
